To Monitor and Engage

CABIC is a North Carolina not-for-profit organization whose mission is to monitor and engage the UNC-Chapel Hill community on issues related to the recruitment, retention and success of Black students, faculty, and staff.  These efforts include review of university statistics in the relevant areas of recruitment and retention, interaction with students, staff and the administration through meetings, webinars, discussions, and other presentations to keep our constituency apprised of the progress of programs and activities for this purpose at UNC.  Where appropriate, CABIC will serve as a source of ideas, recommendations and information to University leadership.

To date, CABIC has presented a number of relevant programs both live and virtual that include:

Chancellor’s Webinar series where we have had relevant conversations with current and past chancellors and other administrators on the state of affairs at UNC and an annual presentation at BAR called “The  Black Issues Forum” panel discussions as a part of the Black Alumni Reunion (BAR) weekend that cover a wide range of topics from the Confederate monument on campus, renaming of campus buildings, student success and more.

CABIC is a voluntary group of UNC-Chapel Hill Black alumni, staff and students.  It is managed by a Board of Directors and currently operates with four standing committees to execute its mission.

The committees include:

1)  The Communications Committee provides outreach and communication strategies for connecting Black Alumni with faculty, staff and students to keep the broader Black Alumni community informed of the “state of affairs” at UNC.

2)  The Strategic Planning Committee works in concert with the Board of Directors.  It proposes and directs the programs of CABIC to achieve its mission. This committee also work to keep CABIC’s board and committee seats filled and maintain a pipeline for doing so.

3)  The Black Issues Forum Planning Committee works with the BAR Planning Committee to ensure a strategic fit in the presentation topic and compatibility with the BAR schedule.

4)   The Chancellor’s Webinar Committee develops the topics and format of these presentations with the Chancellor and executes the same.
